The Maze Runner: Reading Response 1

This book starts out with Thomas being trapped in this elevator. He doesn't remember how he got there, or why he's there. The elevator/box delivered him to this room where a bunch of boys were at. They all stared and made fun of him for being the new "Newbie". This freaked Thomas out more because he felt like he recognized some of the boys, although he'd never seen any of them before in his life.

All of the boys were teenagers and their leaders Alby and Newt introduced themselves to Thomas. Thomas kept asking bunches of questions about "The Glade" which is where he has supposedly arrived at. The boys kept laughing because Thomas was freaking out, he couldn't remember his past at all and somehow he ended up in this foreign place with a bunch of strangers (or so he thinks they are strangers).

Thomas's guide is this little kid named Chuck. Whenever they are walking back to their room they both hear a scream and Chuck says something about Benny being taken. Of course Thomas has no idea what any of them are saying half of the time. He keeps questioning what that means, and Chuck mentions that a beetle blade got Benny but doesn't describe what that is. He keeps questioning things further and further until Thomas walks up to the building he hears the screaming from and goes inside.

He meets Gally who says he is the actual leader of The Glade and argues with him about wanting to see this kid. Gally gets mad and tells him to go see Ben even though Newbies aren't allowed to see "the changing". Whenever he sees Ben he almost throws up, Ben is covered in green and his veins are all green as well, like something got inside of him. He gets thrown out of the room and leaves the house that all of them were in and meets back up with Chuck. It was then he realized that at each edge of The Glade there are big openings with closing doors at night. And beyond those openings are tons of walls and pathways. Thomas was trapped inside of a maze.

The photo below shows a poster of the movie, but it also demonstrates what the entrance of the maze looks like.

101 Things About Me (but really just 15)

15 Things About Me

I'm a really awful driver, I hit a mailbox when I was 15 and recently I've ran into a parked car (as well as being rear-ended twice within 2 months of each other).

I can't play sports at all, I'm too uncoordinated and it's just plain embarrassing to even attempt to play sports in general.

I'm really clumsy, I fall or trip over nonexistent objects on a daily basis.

I've been in band since 6th grade and I play Alto Saxophone. I really love Jazz Band and I look forward to playing in it after marching season is over!

I really enjoy baking and making sweets, especially around Christmas!

My favorite holiday is probably Christmas, because I really love the mind set that everyone gets in. I love giving and making things. It's just a fun time of year and I enjoy being with my family.

I probably look up to my Dad the most in my family. He's really strong willed and determined in everything he does. He's been on this really extreme diet for the past 6 months and lost 50 pounds, he really didn't need to, but he's been working out and eating right to get more healthy. I wouldn't touch half the things he consumes, but I'm still really proud of him..

I work at Price Cutter, and it's honestly the easiest job you could ever do. Since I'm eighteen I'm able to be a checker so I can sell alcohol and tobacco and it's probably the biggest pain ever. The policy is really strict and if someone doesn't have their ID I can't sell it to them, if their age is questionable. People usually yell at me and that's the only awful thing about my job.

I love driving trucks, and I inherited my Dad's 2001 Nissan Frontier whenever my old truck gave out on me.

I'll be going to Drury for college because my Mom works there, and I get to go to Drury for free since she's worked there for so long.

I enjoy reading I just never seem to find time to anymore.

I have one dog, he's a Papillion and his name is Tiki. He's the biggest pain ever.

I'm really enjoying my A.P. Psychology class, and I'm considering majoring in Psychology in college and doing something with that as a possible career.

My Grandma is probably one of the strongest people I know. She recently has finished chemotherapy because she had breast cancer in both breasts. She's been really positive and funny about the whole thing, and I really admire her for that.

If I could travel anywhere it would probably be to Hawaii. It's super relaxing and peaceful, and it was be amazing to go back again.
